I visited this site – it’s interesting but I don’t think I”ll use it.
Thing #13: Delicious
A great tool for accessing bookmarks from any computer. Not sure how I’d use it in practice on the job though. I loved that it helped me clean up my bookmarks! I need to get more practice with tagging – I’m sure this is where the power lies.
Thing #12: Rollyo
Our group decided that this tool seems redundant – we have a variety of ways to save favorite websites already so we did not feel a pressing need to practice using Rollyo. Good to know it’s out there though.
Thing #11: Explore award winning Web 2.0 site.
I just explored Last.fm, a fabulous music site. Users can search by artist name, receive recommendations based on favorite artists, enjoy “visual radio” – all for free. I tried searching “Beethoven” and listened/watched the second movement of Beethoven’s 9th symphony. What a nice way to spend a portion of a summer afternoon!
I could see definite uses for this on a library page. At my school, it would support not only courses in music but also history, psychology, sociology and art. Here’s a link to Beethoven visual radio: Beethoven Radio
Thing #7: Technology Post (for things 8 & 9 see RSS feeds)
I learned something useful today about my laptop charger. I don’t have a picture yet but I will get one soon to show you all what happened. I hadn’t turned on my laptop in awhile and, when I plugged it in and turned it on, nothing happened. I checked the charger, the cord, the outlet and still nothing. Panicked, I brought the laptop to our site tech who plugged his charger into my computer which did turn on the laptop. We figured my charger was bad but, unfortunately, he did not have a replacement on hand. He was handing it back to me when he noticed that the pin inside the plug to the computer was bent. It’s really hard to see but there is a copper pin in the plug – he straightened it out using a really tiny pliers and, voila, it worked! I am passing this on in the event anyone is in a similar situation.
Things #5-6: Explore Flickr and Flickr mash-ups.
Originally uploaded by Teon.
I learned to upload photos from Flickr to my blog. This is what the Piedmont High School Library will look like in the evening, post seismic retrofit. This is a picture of the National Library of Australia.
Flickr Mash-ups: I think I may use the movie poster feature from Big Huge Labs, a flickr toy site. I could see making a poster of my teen advisory board as a marketing tool for the library.
Things #3-4: Create blog, register, add avatar.
The blog is up and registered. Here’s my avatar. I didn’t spend too much time on it but now I know how to create one.
